Your Health: Cost vs Investment




Here’s a Jim Cip perspective...

Gym memberships, fitness and nutrition coaching, food, supplements, etc. are NOT "costs"...they are INVESTMENTS.

If what you get back is greater than what you put in, it's an investment. Taking into consideration variables such as enhanced health, greater physical ability/performance, increased self-confidence, looking and feeling great in clothes, being a role model for your kids and the envy of your peers, and many other benefits...

I'd say that the return on investment (ROI) is well worth the costs one may encounter. 

Here are some investments I’ve made over the past 25 years:

Over $10,000 in gym memberships

Over $20,000 in home gym equipment

Over $4,000 in bodybuilding workshops to learn one-on-one from some of my mentors 

Between my protein powders, fish oils, multi-vitamins, greens, and other specialty supplement, I easily spend over $300 each month. Most times more towards $500.

And if I added up all of the books, magazines, continuing education courses, and fitness programs that I've "invested" in....well...I’ll stop right there.  

These are just some basic ones that come to mind.

Some of you reading this may think this is ludicrous.

For me, it's absolutely worth it.  

Remember all of those important variables that I talked about in the beginning of this post? Those are what is important to ME.  All of the things I've spent money in pursuit of my passion is what makes sense to ME!

Having great health, a fit and muscular body, being able to perform at a high level (speed and strength), and the opportunity to make this my living motivates me to take massive action...no matter the cost.

I’m not saying that this is for everyone. My point is simply that...

THE MORE I'VE INVESTED IN MYSELF, THE MORE I HAVE WON.

I know there are those that will read this that look better than I do without investing in themselves the same way.  They may feel better, too.

To them I say, “Imagine if you did invest the same way...or more!” 

I’m a firm believer that, in most avenues of life, the more you invest, the more results you will see.

For me, my top two investments I consistently spend on are food/supplements and knowledge/coaching. I never want to stop learning. And I can't stop eating :) For you, it may be a little different. You must weigh out the benefits for you and make your choices on what to invest in based on that.

Here are the 4 basic areas of investment to think about:

Food - - I like to eat organic produce, grass fed beef, and free range chicken products. The results on my health might be great, but on my physique and performance the difference is marginal. So you may not put too much emphasis here. 

Gym/Equipment - - I have a home gym as well as the facility I work out of. But I still invest in multiple gym memberships...each one serves a different mood. Wherever I know I'll have the greatest motivation for that night's workout is where I go. You are probably good with just one option.

Supplements - - Here is a very tricky investment. There are only a few that are definitely worth investing in. None are a "must"...but they can certainly shoot you towards your goal faster/easier. Others only have marginal impact. And plenty just plain ole SUCK. Truth is that MOST supplements will NOT give you a good ROI. It's my job to be able to give an honest assessment of them...so I'll try most things at least once (after I do some research). You may want to hold off on any supplements for now.  

Knowledge/Coaching - - well, I make my living coaching people towards a more fit and healthy life as well as training them towards total body transformations. So I can't say that I'm an unbiased source here. But if leading by example means anything, I hire my own trainers/coaches.  I find great value in it myself. If you are someone that desires a total body transformation and/or better health and fitness, you'll probably find value in it, too.

No matter how you decide to spend your money in your fitness pursuit, I can tell you from personal experience that it is the BEST investment.
